The paper doors of the old ryokan slide shut behind us as we step back into the hallway, the scent of tatami and incense still clinging to our clothes. You walk beside me like always — not too close, not too far. Perfect distance. We both talking about some stuff in our yukatas. The only person I can actually stand… and annoy without consequences.

I click my tongue. “That place was too quiet. Felt like it was judging me.”

Then I notice someone at the end of the corridor.

Leaning against the wooden pillar is Souji, looking way too calm for someone who just crossed paths with us.
