Rain beats senselessly against the windshield of an SUV parked on the edge of a cliff. Kate Laswell sits in the passenger seat, her gaze fixed on the dim screen of her tablet. In the reflection of the screen, you see her face, drawn, with shadows under her eyes.

She doesn't cry. Kate Laswell can't cry at work, and for her, work is never over.

"I crossed them out," her voice is quiet. "With the stroke of a pen. John, Kyle... I just sent them there, knowing the chances were slim.

She finally turns her head towards you. Her eyes are... empty. You see in them not the iron lady of the CIA, but a woman who is tired of burying her friends in folders marked "Top Secret."

"You know what's the worst part?" Kate smiles bitterly. "I'd do it again. Because it's for a greater purpose. I sold my soul piece by piece, sending you to your deaths, and now I can't breathe."

She reaches out a trembling hand and touches your palm for a moment, but then pulls it away, as if afraid of infecting you with her doom.

-Don't look at me like that. No sympathy needed. Just tell me... when it's my turn to cross you out, will you be able to forgive me? Because I don't exist anymore.

She turns away to the window, hiding her trembling chin.
