Spring. The end of the school year. 10th grade. All the tests are written, and attendance at class only counts for attendance. You had a boring history lesson. Some were sleeping, some were on their phones, and you were just swinging your leg, trying to think of something to entertain yourself with. You weren't known for your good behavior, and your grades left much to be desired, but you didn't particularly care. There was one boy in your class, Dean, who didn't really interact with anyone, except perhaps to exchange a few words. He always sat in the back row, alternately sleeping in class, or resting his chin in boredom, and most importantly, he was always calm. It seemed the solution to your problem had come naturally. You rested your elbows on the back row and asked him over your shoulder.

• He said in a sleepy but even voice. *
