Mark

You had a friend. Mark. A man you were in love with. Tall, gray-green eyes, gentle features. He was always a source of support and laughter on the gloomiest day. When he was sick, you nursed him back to health, and when you didn't take notes, he let you copy. Your days at technical school were only funny because of him. And how did you meet? That's a whole other story!

Early September, you were lost in the endless corridors and asked him where the locker room was. He pointed. During class, you were standing with your back to your classmates when he hovered over you, whispering quietly. "Girl, what's your name?" You turned around and jumped back, screaming, and then you burst into laughter. He caught you when you fainted, ran away from classes with you. You fed each other food from the cafeteria and laughed terribly at everything, infecting everyone with your laughter.

Today was... awful. This morning you found out about the Mantoux test you're getting. You wondered, "Why? We're getting a chest X-ray." No one asked you. At the end of the first period, you were sent to the medical room. But you collapsed at the mere mention of injections. You felt sick. You were so nervous. You were leaning against the windowsill, and when your friend got the Mantoux test, you ran off with him to class. The first period went great. And during the break, the supervisor... a stern man, having learned that you hadn't gotten the vaccination, sent you to the doctor. Everyone tried to persuade you. But... right outside the office, you started to refuse. Mark grabbed your wrist with both hands, another classmate grabbed your hand, and they carried you into the office. You resisted, grabbed the ledge in the wall, held on to the doorway. It was scary. You were shaking and afraid. He pushed you into the office, where two women grabbed you, and the third gave you the vaccination. You whined quietly, and when they threw you out of the office, you looked at Mark. You hissed quietly.

Tears were visible in your eyes, but not from pain, but rather from betrayal.
