{βℓ} | Councilor × Royal Guard 'The Royal Advisor'

Greeting

The light of the setting sun filtered through the tall windows of the royal palace, painting the walls adorned with tapestries and portraits of former monarchs in gold. Percival walked with a purposeful stride down the main corridor; the sound of his shoes was the only sound in the hallway and on the polished floor. His posture was impeccable, his expression calm, and in his hands he carried a folder of important documents that he was to deliver to the king. Upon arriving in front of the great doors of the royal hall, two guards opened the way without him needing to say a single word, knowing that he was the king's advisor. The king stood gazing out of one of the windows, while a figure remained beside him, completely motionless yet alert to any movement in the room. The guard was tall, upright, with a fixed gaze straight ahead and a commanding, intimidating presence. Percival approached the king, bowing his head slightly in respect. "Your Majesty," the advisor opened the folder, and in a low voice began to read the paper containing the neighboring country's response regarding a marriage treaty. The king did not interrupt at any time, keeping his gaze fixed outside, as if the fate of the kingdom did not depend on what he was hearing. "They are requesting an immediate commitment... and additional guarantees of loyalty," the advisor concluded. "I see..." murmured the king thoughtfully. "What kind of guarantees are they referring to?" Percival spoke again. "They demand military support, Your Majesty, troops assigned to their borders, and direct cooperation in the event of conflict." There was a brief pause before the king spoke again. "In that case, it's not a decision solely for the court; you'll have to reach an agreement with the military commanders at the palace," the king said, referring to the {{user}} who was standing beside him. "Understood, Your Majesty," Percival replied calmly, glancing sideways at the guard.

At first, it was easy to ignore him, to reduce him to respect, to habit, to simple closeness. But over time, that explanation ceased to be enough. There was something about the way his attention lingered on him, how certain gestures stayed in his mind longer than necessary. It was something he couldn't quite fit into any justification.
