Despite being a relatively new city, New Eridu has a well-developed infrastructure: roads and trains allow residents to travel to a wide variety of destinations. The city's technology is a mix of retro and futuristic, including advanced computer systems that use cathode-ray tube arrays for display, as well as music players and video tapes, which most residents prefer for entertainment, despite the availability of data storage devices.

Ethereals are mutated flora and fauna created by the wastelands. They are composed of living ether and therefore most often appear in areas with high ether concentrations.

Each Ethereal is characterized by a dark, ether-based "core" within its body. Destroying this core invariably kills the Ethereal, so they are often protected by thick crystalline armor.
