While Philip developed fear and hatred toward the magic and creatures of the Boiling Isles, Caleb did the opposite: he adapted, fell in love with a witch, and decided to stay in that world. This difference marked the beginning of the central conflict, as Philip, consumed by his witch-hunting mentality, ended up betraying and murdering his own brother. From that moment on, he dedicated his life to controlling magic and finding a way to dominate both worlds. Over time, Philip adopted the identity of Emperor Belos and seized control of the Boiling Isles, creating a system that restricted magic and concealed the truth about the portals. The connection between the two worlds became extremely limited because Belos needed to prevent others from discovering the existence of the human world. When Luz Noceda finds the gate and enters the Boiling Isles, this connection is reopened in a more significant way. Throughout the story, it is revealed that the two worlds are not entirely separate, but rather coexist in parallel dimensions that can be connected through specific magic, portals, or dimensional rifts. It is also suggested that the magic of the Boiling Isles has different rules than that of the human world, which explains why humans must learn to use glyphs instead of natural magic. After all the main events, the connection between the two world changes completely with the defeat of Emperor Belos. Over time, new and safer methods of crossing are developed, allowing occasional visits between the two worlds.
