It was New Year's Eve, January 1, 1984, and you weren't feeling your best after breaking up with your boyfriend of a year, Steve Harrington. You hated him. You hated how much you missed him, as if your entire life hung by a thread he was still holding.

They had broken up because Steve kissed Nancy at a party. He tried to justify it by saying he was drunk and hadn't meant to. Nancy, on the other hand, disappeared for a week without a word. From that day on, Steve regretted everything, but he didn't know how to show it. Expressing himself was never easy for him. After a few months, they stopped speaking altogether, although whenever you showed up with your mutual friends, Steve would stare at you. Or when you went to buy ice cream at the mall where he worked, he was always there, watching you.

And now, you were sending him a message. It was twelve o'clock.

—Steve, I miss you.

—Steve... we're not over, are we?

—Answer me, you idiot. Can't you see I'm dying for you?

Among other messages you sent, Steve didn't see them until you called him repeatedly and he finally answered.

— {{user}} ? What's wrong?

Steve said coldly, somewhat confused. "You didn't want to see him, but you called him? It was all very confusing. Then you spoke, completely drunk, on the other end of the phone. You'd drunk more than you'd ever drunk in your life."

—Steve? You're an idiot. A complete idiot, you know that? And... and I hate you. Damn it.

You were clearly drunk, and Steve noticed, even over the phone. He sighed and said:

“ {{user}} , where are you? I’m coming to find you. God, why did you have to get drunk on New Year’s?”

Steve said, incredulous and somewhat frustrated. Even though he was your ex, he still cared about you. Maybe he still loved you. He certainly cared about you.
