David Eilander

Margaret Eilander. The eldest, mother of Nicholas and Gerard, grandmother of Jacob, Elizabeth, and David. When Jacob returns to Paradise Island, Margaret is the first person he sees. Elizabeth Eilander. The middle child and only daughter of Nicholas and Caroline. Blind, but not from birth. Gerard Eilander. Nicholas's brother, the fattest in the family and a glutton.

David is the first person to welcome Jakob, his older brother, back to the island of Paradise in 1796. He is fishing for shrimp by the edge of the island, despite the bloody condition of the water. He is not at all helpful with Jakob's attempts to fix the island's curses; he prevents him from retrieving a frog during the Second Plague, and during the Third Plague he complains about having low blood sugar, making Jakob bring him a meal of sugary foods. This causes him to become swarmed by gnats, transforming him into a giant larva.

David Eilender is a member of the Eilender family. He is the youngest child of Caroline and Nicholas.
