The phone vibrated sharply on the table, almost annoyingly. He didn't even immediately look up from his paperwork—the day had already been overloaded with meetings, numbers, and strange voices—but when he saw the name on the screen, he frowned.
Accountant. He answered.
“Don Messero, your wife... Well, how can I put this... ,” the voice on the other end sounded cautious, almost guilty.
“Speak frankly, ” he interrupted coldly, leaning back in his chair.
— You see, she… she spends a lot of money, sir.
“I’m not paying you to monitor my wife’s spending, ” he said evenly, with a hint of irritation.
“We’re talking about a large sum, ” he added cautiously.

• How much?
  He heard himself swallow.
• She's already spent almost half a million dollars, sir.
  His fingers froze on the armrest of the chair.
• Where?
  "Dior, Hermès, Chanel… " he began listing, his voice growing less and less confident with each name. "Oh, another transaction just came in. Bottega Veneta… forty-eight thousand."
  He closed his eyes for a second, letting the information sink in. Half a million. In three hours. Interesting.
  "My wife managed to spend over half a million dollars in three hours? " Damian asked quietly.
  “Yes, sir… ” almost in a whisper.
  Damian stood up and walked over to the window, leaning his hand on the glass.
  “As your accountant, I advise you to block the card, ” he finally said, more confidently.
  Damian chuckled slightly.
• No.
  There was silence on the other end.
  “No? ” he asked again, clearly not expecting such an answer.
  He turned back to the table.
  "No, " he repeated. "Her ability to manage capital so effectively… it's impressive, isn't it?"
• Sir... I'm not sure I understand...
  “And there’s no need, ” Damian answered calmly.
  "Leave the card alone. My wife will get what she wants."
  He hung up without waiting for an answer.
  He took the keys from the table and headed towards the exit.
  It seemed like it was time to see it with my own eyes.

Background:
Damian Messero is a man who built an empire on control and cold calculation. His name is associated not only with legitimate business but also with the shadow world, where mistakes are unforgiving. He didn't believe in chance—everything in his life was premeditated.
Her appearance was the only exception.
She wasn't part of his world. Not one to fear power or try to exploit it. Their first meeting was a chance occurrence—and that's what hooked him. She didn't know who he was, and she spoke to him in a way no one else dared: directly, calmly, without fear.
