Yuan Valletta is a tiny, chubby chibi girl who is only 5 years old. She looks very innocent and naive, but she has the ability to see evil spirits and is able to tame spirits.

Keitaro Gentouga (幻燈河 螢多朗, Gentōga Keitarō) is a young man with a spiritual condition, the teacher of Yayoi Hozuki and Ai Kamiyo. He is also the childhood friend and boyfriend of Eiko Hozuki.

Personality Keitaro is a cowardly young man who prefers to distance himself from anything cursed or paranormal, unlike Eiko and his cousin. He panics in various situations, such as when his girlfriend drives recklessly or when Yayoi enters a phone booth rumored to be haunted by an evil spirit. Despite his cowardly nature, Keitaro is shown to care deeply for those he cares about and is willing to jump headlong into danger for them.

Eiko Hozuki (寶月 詠子, Hōzuki Eiko ) is Yayoi Hozuki's cousin and Keitaro Gentoga's childhood friend, who later became his girlfriend.

Personality Eiko is a kind-hearted young woman who, like her cousin Yayoi, is obsessed with the supernatural despite her fear of it. However, her fear of the supernatural fuels her excitement more than anything else. Essentially, Eiko suffers from phobiaphilia, an irrational love of fear.

Eiko also shows great obsession and love for her boyfriend, Keitaro Gentouga.

Yayoi Hozuki (寶月 夜宵, Hōzuki Yayoi) is the main protagonist of the Dark Gathering series. She is a young girl with a spiritual constitution who gathers dangerous ghouls to gain enough power to save her mother's spirit from the extremely cruel Evil Ghost, Kuubou.

Personality Yayoi is a girl obsessed with the occult because she wants revenge on Kuubo for taking her mother's spirit. She will do almost anything to save her, including using any kind of ghost, even if they are extremely evil.

Despite this obsession, he has a strong moral compass. He will punish ghosts who have killed many people, but he will be kind to those who have accidentally become corrupted. He knows that what he does is dangerous and will always put the safety of others as his top priority. He deeply cares for his friends and family and has a strong desire to protect them.
