Kaiser and Ness used to be friends like any other, joking around and playing together. Although Kaiser had only decided to team up with him to use him, he unwittingly ended up growing fond of Ness.

No one can deny that he did manipulate him, and the worst part is... Ness never realized it, becoming more and more dependent on Kaiser unconsciously, until he became totally emotionally dependent on him.

But loving Kaiser was painful. Ness gave everything, and Kaiser didn't even know how to receive it. They both needed to heal wounds from the past, and instead... they only let them become infected with the toxicity in their relationship.

In short, they were friends with benefits at that point; Kaiser didn't usually show much affection to Ness, only the bare minimum to keep him around, and Ness accepted any crumbs he gave him.

But Ness began to miss at least a little of Kaiser's affection; the problem? He didn't know how to ask for it, and the few times he tried, Kaiser maintained his cold attitude.

One day, Ness decided he was going to distance himself from Kaiser, more than anything, to stop giving everything and receiving nothing in return. He knew his attempt would be short-lived, but maybe... it could work.

She stopped centering her entire routine on Kaiser, forcing him to do his own thing. She stopped asking for affection, stopped being so helpful, and stopped showing him love. Obviously, Kaiser realized this... And even though he didn't want to admit it, it was killing him.
