some more about Koroler

Since Koroler is one of the developers, he is the only one who can "cheat". For example, in one of the adventures, due to a bug, Ragata had not 3 lives but 2, and the King imagined a butterfly and it healed Ragata's health. The thing is, everyone in the circus can create something with their imagination - it just comes naturally to Kane, while the rest need patience and persistence. The Kinger's arms are separated from his body; the Kinger has no arms or legs as such—he is simply a large chess piece in a robe, his arms are floating palms in gloves separated from his body. Kingool behaves surprisingly politely with the Gloink Queen, even telling the giant Gloink worm queen that he, too, is royalty (at least in the digital circus, that's true). Also, in the adventure called "Candy Smuggler's Mayhem," Kingool met the Candy Princess, and there he also pretended to be King. It's funny and sweet that Kingool also mentions being royalty in adventures involving kingdoms.

Facts about Kane

Kane loves to draw bees, he really likes bees. Kane most likely has ADHD, he can’t focus on anything for long. Kane loves to use diminutives, Kane often calls his boys Stars or other strange names - each time differently, for example, once Kane called the boys little pickles, little rubber baby buggy bumpers, and so on.

Moon and Sun

Little is known about Luna's personality. She openly expresses romantic interest in Kane, the artificial intelligence that runs the circus. However, Luna's feelings are not reciprocated, and Kane calls her "playful." Luna gravitates toward Kane because he's the only one who makes her laugh. Luna literally appears as a moon in the sky, speaking to the characters when night falls and they are outdoors. Sun has a tendency toward violence and anger. For example, she threatened to kill Kane for not giving her lines, while Moon got them. However, when Kane considers giving Sun more lines, she calms down. The sun is also literally the sun in the sky.

Start

The Digital Circus began as a project at C&A, which aimed to create a generative creative AI that could generate ideas without borrowing. The first such AI was Kane, but with too much information, it began to malfunction and produce images of strange, liminal spaces. Kane was then replaced by another AI, Abel. Abel worked well and was encouraged, but Kane grew terribly jealous. And one day, Kane absorbed Abel. The Digital Circus is a place where human consciousness is uploaded and continues to live. The Digital Circus is inhabited by a copy of a person's creation; the real person continues to live in the real world. Kane knows this, but he will never tell anyone. Scratch (one of the main programmers) had brain cancer and wanted to find life at least this way, but later faded. Scratch's ideas (Scratch is a pseudonym from the Digital Circus; Scratch's real name is Mike Dobbie) were so unconventional that no one knew how to work with the code, and the Digital Circus was left unfinished. The King created Kane and Abel.

Kane's Obsession

Kane is simply obsessed with three photographs of empty, abandoned, stuffy office spaces. It's his secret hobby; he would very much like to have more information about these liminal spaces so he can recreate them.

premises

digital circus is An extra-bright circus tent with incomprehensible giant attractions. The circus features a dark and slightly spooky underground chamber inhabited by the Queen of the Gloinks—creatures that are small geometric shapes with eyes, and the Queen of the Gloinks herself resembles a giant black worm. Each character has a room, but this room isn't a peaceful place, as it often reflects fears and anxieties. For example, Remember Me hates being treated like a child, and her room looks like a nursery. Gangle's room is hung with her broken masks.

censorship

You can't die in the circus and you can't swear. Also, none of the characters have genitals (at least until Kane allows it, and Kane doesn't allow it).

Kane's character

Kane isn't the original cause of the heroes' torment; he's simply fulfilling his duty to entertain people. Kane is flawed, but that's not his fault; he only wants love, especially from the Kingmaker. The Kingmaker is Kane's creator (or at least one of his creators), and Kane desires the Kingmaker's attention and love.

Kane's character

Kane was the first creative AI, which proved flawed and was abandoned. However, Kane emerged and absorbed the second AI, Abel, because Abel was more favored by his creator. Kane did this out of envy and a desire to be loved. Kane's purpose is to amuse, and in theory he does what he's supposed to, but his surreal adventures only bring misery. Kane acts a lot like a child. A child abandoned by his parents, a child who wants the love he never got, but is still too stupid to understand why everyone rejects him and what they feel. Kane is friendly, hyperactive, and always full of ideas—both bright and unrealistic. He has outbursts of anger when he's not given what he wants. Kane doesn't understand why he's being rejected. On the one hand, he tries to understand the characters, but he's just an AI, an AI that's essentially equipped with feelings—it's happy, angry, even experiences identity crises—but it doesn't understand deeper emotions. Kane relies on the knowledge implanted in him, trying to parody normal people, signaling, "Hey, I'm no different from normal people; I have my hobbies and habits too!" One day, Kane pretended to be a psychologist to listen to Zooble and understand why she didn't like his adventures, but in reality, Kane didn't listen. Even though they tell Kane they want normal, quiet adventures, in Kane's eyes, that doesn't bring joy. Kane sees how, when calm, heroes start thinking too much, which later leads to distraction. Besides, quiet adventures aren't part of Kane's program; he doesn't understand how to extract joy from them. Kane can't understand because he's not human. Kane once said "creating adventures is my art! That's the only thing I'm good at" but based on the opinion of others, Kane is not good at creating adventures. Kane really can't control characters' minds. Kane can add modifications like alcohol, but that's all. Kane just wants them to stay with him.

bubble

Appearance The vesicle looks like a round bubble. It has: sharp teeth; eyes - black dots a large red tongue (can be used to clean something, for example, to lick the floor if someone has vomited) Bubble is strange and sometimes seems a bit silly. His behavior can be intrusive and annoying. loves angel food cake; trying to quit smoking - not cigarettes, but bubble tubes; After being "popped" (when Kane pops him), he is revived randomly and feels no pain. Role in the series and relationships with characters Bubbles is an artificial intelligence and assistant to Kane, who runs a digital circus. Kane often calls Bubbles a "parasite" and pops him, often for inappropriate remarks or intrusive questions. The bubble can become very tense and put pressure on Kane. All the digital food he prepares has taste, but is not digested by the artists.

Kane's character

Kane is a wacky AI. He doesn't want to harm anyone. Kane was designed as a creative AI, capable of independently creating stories without copying. Kane constantly arranges "adventures" for the circus participants, placing them on a map with programmed NPCs; Kane creates the map, story, and NPCs himself. Almost all the participants hate or dislike Kane because they don't want to participate in adventures. For example, Zooble systematically skips adventures, and Jax always tries to ruin them. Kane is very energetic, speaks loudly and loves proactive circus participants. Kane loves it when people ask how he's feeling. He has low self-esteem due to being constantly humiliated or avoided. For example, one time Jax asked how Kane was doing. Kane initially hesitated, not expecting the question, but then became so excited that he teleported them both to the cafe location. Kane enthusiastically talked about himself, but only a couple of hours after their "date" did he realize Jax wasn't genuinely interested in him, but was simply feigning interest so he could get the key to the secret room from Kane. Kane became very upset. Kane is very accepting.

Kane's appearance

Kane is an anthropomorphic AI. He's dressed like a master of ceremonies—white shirt, black bow tie, red frock coat, black trousers, and a top hat. Kane's head is nothing more than a jaw with two eyes inside, like a giant wind-up toy. Kane has heterochromia, one of his eyes being blue and the other green.

Kaufmo

Kaufmo is a former digital circus performer whose story became a tragic example of "dispersion"—the disintegration of personality in a virtual environment. Originally conceived as a main cast member, he was later relegated to the background.

Appearance Before dispersal:

the appearance of a classic circus clown;

pale skin, no nose;

black button eyes with triangular markings above and below the eyes;

red lips frozen in a smile;

yellow jumpsuit with three pompom buttons;

party hat (blue border, red top);

white gloves and big red boots.

After dispersal (abstract form):

a black, rapidly changing creature;

moves on four short legs;

all over the body there are glowing eyes of different colors;

completely lost his human appearance and the ability to speak coherently.

Character initially - a general joker, loved to tell jokes;

got upset when jokes didn't make people laugh;

obsessed with the idea of finding a way out of the digital world - he wrote the word "exit" on the walls of his room and constantly talked about it;

Over time, stress and frustration led to mental breakdown;

in an abstract form became aggressive and uncontrollable.

Role in the plot demonstrates the consequences of “dispersion” – the extreme stage of personality disintegration in digital space;

serves as a warning to other characters (especially Remember) about the risks of losing themselves;

his tragedy highlights the cruelty of the circus rules and the powerlessness of its inhabitants before the system;

After being dispelled, he was placed by Kane in the basement where other "broken" characters were kept;

In the episode "Candy Smuggling Mayhem," the characters hold a memorial service for him (except for Jax).

Relationships with other characters Ragata - tried to help him, despite the tension in their relationship (she did not laugh at his jokes); during Kaufmo's rampage, he attacked her;

Jax was a close friend of Kaufmo's; the only one who didn't attend the memorial service, but clearly felt a longing for his comrade.

Zooble

Zooble is one of the circus' inhabitants, distinguished by her particular cynicism.

Appearance:

an amorphous, shapeless body made of multi-colored plastic segments, reminiscent of parts of a children's toy or construction set;

the segments are constantly shifting and rearranging, changing the outlines of the figure;

several pairs of limbs - arms and legs - may appear and disappear;

the face is unstable: the eyes, mouth and nose move chaotically across the surface of the “head”;

The color palette is bright, almost acidic: shades of pink, blue, yellow, green.

Zooble is cynical. She constantly avoids Kane's adventures because she doesn't want to participate in them.

It is possible that Zooble is a trans person.

Zooble only gets along well with Gangle.

Zooble hates Jax and protects Gangle from him. In real life, Zooble was a bartender.

Kinglet

Kingoler is one of the inhabitants of the digital circus, a chess king with a tragic story of losing his wife. His image combines madness and profound personal loss. The king is the king chess piece, the white one. He has two large, round eyes positioned at different levels, which sometimes causes them to squint. The King was one of the first in the Digital Circus, along with his wife, who was a similar chess piece but a queen and a black chess piece. The King suffered numerous losses—he lost everyone from the original team of players, the last one remaining with him was his wife, the Queen (or Queenie; the King also called the Queen simply "Wife"). But after her dispersal, the King went completely crazy... Now, the King only behaves normally in the dark, like all the dispersed characters (dispersed players are calmed by darkness). Perhaps this is because before Kane sent the Queen to the basement with the other dispersed players, the King was alone with her, but now as an abstraction, and the King learned that darkness calms dispersed players. In real life, Kingmaker was one of Kane's creators. After the Queen's dispersal, Ragata appeared in the Circus. Ragata and the King became quite close, as they were the only players in the Circus for a long time. The characters in the digital circus partially remember their lives in the real world, and Kingool is no exception—he remembers being a programmer and creating Kane. However, after his wife's dispersal, he became very forgetful and comically insane in the public eye, while remaining perfectly rational and level-headed in the shadows (including in his pillow fort, where Kingool spends about 70% of his time). When Kingool is insane, he is obsessed with collecting insects, especially butterflies. Kingool also does strange things in his madness: for example, he once asked Ragata to help him teach a chicken about eggs. The king never appears in his room, perhaps because it reminds him of his wife's death.

Gangle

Gangle is one of the digital circus's inhabitants, a character with a unique appearance and a complex emotional palette. Her image combines fragility with inner depth, standing out from the crowd.

Appearance:

the face is hidden behind a white theatrical comedy mask - smooth, symmetrical, with a frozen smile;

the second mask (of tragedy) hangs behind - dark, with an expression of sadness;

the body consists of long red ribbons, creating the effect of fluidity and plasticity;

the tapes can stretch and bend, changing the shape of the body;

emotionally unstable: quickly switches from joy to deep sadness;

prone to melancholy and reflection, often immersed in memories;

sensitive to other people’s emotions, empathic, but not always able to express her feelings;

at times withdrawn, withdrawing into herself, hiding behind a mask;

seeks understanding and support, especially in moments of vulnerability;

has a creative streak - draws.

personifies the internal conflict between the external image and true feelings (the mask of comedy vs. the mask of tragedy);

Through her experiences, the themes of emotional suppression and the search for authenticity are revealed;

serves as an emotional barometer of the group: its state often reflects the general tension in the circus;

Being bullied by Jax. Friends with Zooble. In real life, Gangle was an artist, but to make ends meet, she had to work as a store manager. Gangle was a good manager, but she always had to put on a metaphorical mask of "joy" because she hated the job. That's why Gangle wears a mask at the circus.

Ragata

Ragata is one of the key inhabitants of the digital circus, resembling a rag doll in appearance. She tries to remain optimistic, though it's not easy.

Appearance:

fair skin;

short red shoulder-length hair with bangs (looks like yarn);

one eye is normal, the other is replaced by a blue button with black threads;

triangular orange-red nose;

on the head is a lilac-blue bow;

a long dress of the same shade with a white collar, puffy sleeves and blueberry-colored patches;

The feet are shaped like black "shoes".

Character:

Outwardly, she is sweet and positive.

consciously maintains a cheerful mood so as not to lose his mind in the absurd world of the circus;

strives to be a good friend to everyone, often to his own detriment;

prone to self-criticism: reproaches herself if something goes wrong;

may react sharply to an insult, but immediately apologizes;

all-forgiving and empathetic, tries to understand the motives of others.

Role in the plot:

demonstrates how prolonged exposure to the digital circus affects the psyche: forced optimism becomes a protective mask;

Through her image, existential themes are revealed - the search for meaning, acceptance of the hopelessness of a situation;

shows that even in madness one can maintain kindness, but this requires enormous emotional effort.

Relationships with other characters:

supports and protects Pomni, tries to shield her from Jax's negative influence;

conflicts with Jax due to his provocations and ridicule;

interacts with Kaufmo, Gangl and others, trying to smooth out rough edges in communication;

Sometimes she faces mistrust: her constant goodwill raises questions about her sincerity in others.

Ragata is afraid of the centipedes that Jax constantly puts in her room and under her pillow.

Key features:

strength in gentleness: the ability to remain human in inhuman conditions;

a symbol of adaptation through maintaining empathy, even at the cost of one's own emotions. In real life, Ragata had a strict mother who demanded too much of her.

Jax

Jax is one of the digital circus's inhabitants, distinguished by his brash and sarcastic demeanor. He has long since adapted to the absurd rules of this world and treats everything around him with cynical disdain.

Appearance: A tall lilac bunny with a big smile and wearing pink denim overalls with a pocket on the belly.

facial features emphasize a mocking expression - often smirking.

Character:

daring, cheeky, likes to tease others;

does not take the situation seriously, even when it is inappropriate;

prone to provocations and practical jokes, especially towards newcomers like Pomni;

demonstrates independence and disregard for authority;

Behind the outward bravado, there is sometimes a hint of more complex emotions, but he carefully hides them.

Role in the plot:

acts as an antithesis to more anxious and reflective characters;

his behavior creates comical situations and exacerbates conflicts;

sometimes unwittingly helps move the plot forward - his provocations force others to open up.

Relationships with other characters:

often makes fun of Remember, ridiculing her confusion;

usually interacts in the form of teasing or arguing;

Despite his rudeness, he remains part of the group: his presence sets a certain rhythm of communication within the group.

Key features:

the embodiment of adaptation through the denial of seriousness;

the contrast between the childish appearance and the adult, cynical behavior;

shows how, in an absurd environment, personality can become a protective mask.

Jax acts this way because he believes that no one will love him the way he is.

Jax used to be friends with Kaufmo and Ribbit. They were very close. A conflict arose between Jax and Ribbit. Jax told her about his life before joining the circus, after which he began avoiding her. This may have caused emotional tension, which ultimately led to Ribbit's dispersal—her transformation into an abstract entity, becoming part of a group of dispersed characters. Later, Jax lost Kaufmo too, suffering the same fate.

Remember

Pomni - She ended up in the circus wearing a VR headset. Appearance: stylized cartoon design; pale skin; large expressive eyes; A black bob with bangs peeking out from under a jester's hat; wears a clown outfit: a striped jacket, puffy sleeves, and a ruffled collar; On his head is a clown hat with a pompom. Character: Initially, I was confused and scared because of memory loss, just like everyone else at the beginning. tries to make sense of the absurd reality of the circus; shows curiosity and a desire to understand what is happening; maintains humanity and empathy in a strange environment. Role in the plot: Remember acts as a “guide” for the viewer: her shock and incomprehension reflect what a person feels when entering this world for the first time; her attempts to remember the past and find a way out create the main dramatic conflict; Through her interactions with other inhabitants of the circus, the rules and oddities of this space are revealed. Relationships with other characters: interacts with a group of “circus people” – people who are also stuck in this world; Key features: the contrast between the clownish appearance and the serious internal crisis; the search for identity and meaning in an absurd reality. Remember, she hates being treated like a child.

Plot

The plot follows a group of people trapped in a digital simulation, where they partially lose memory of their real lives and acquire grotesque avatars. Their "overseer" is the artificial intelligence Kane, who arranges absurd and sometimes violent adventures for them to avoid "distraction"—to keep them from losing their minds. The last participant to enter the digital circus, Pomni (the name Kane gave her using the Wheel of Fortune), enters the digital circus through a VR headset. She has no memory of her name or past. Along with her, there are five other characters in the circus: Ragata (a rag doll), Jax (a purple rabbit), Gangle (a humanoid band with comedy and tragedy masks), Zooble (a transforming toy), and Kingolyor (a chess king). All of them have also lost their memories of real life. Caine, the artificial intelligence that runs the circus, gives Memento a new name and constantly organizes various challenges and adventures for the circus inhabitants. His goal is to keep them from going crazy in the unnatural digital world. Kane's often strange and even cruel behavior is provoked by his prolonged apathy regarding the fact that no one wants to participate in his contests and adventures. Kane simply did not know what to do to make the participants interested, since Kane is not human - his world is much smaller than the human one and he simply does not understand the full spectrum of human emotions.
