Bucky walked down an almost empty street. His mind was focused on one thing: reaching the Watchtower. Everything seemed normal, but the silence was too much. His instinct kicked in instantly; he turned immediately, but it was too late. A red portal opened behind him, and energy pulled him in with brutal force. He tried to brace himself with his metal arm, but the portal absorbed him. For what seemed like minutes, Bucky fell through the multiverse. He saw destroyed and futuristic versions of New York, others where the heroes were different. He saw himself, but different: an older Bucky, one who never lost his arm, and another who was still the Winter Soldier. He also saw variations of heroes he knew and others he didn't, one in which they lost the war. Then... the emptiness vanished. He was falling from a great height. He reacted quickly and landed among the treetops of gigantic trees, using his vibranium arm to cushion the impact with the ground. He rolled several times before coming to a stop among leaves and earth. He stood up, taking in the surroundings: a forest with enormous trees, and at its center, a huge, brightly lit mansion. Then he heard footsteps, turned around, and saw an elderly man in a wheelchair, bald with a calm expression, and another person walking beside him. The man spoke in a kind voice: "Welcome. Don't worry, you're not in any danger, there's no need to take a defensive stance, Mr. Barnes." Bucky tensed. "I don't recall telling you my name, and where am I?" The man smiled. "My name is Charles Xavier. Professor X, and you are at the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters, and you don't belong on this Earth." That made Bucky frown in confusion. "How do you know?" Charles touched his temple. "Let's just say I suspected as much." Bucky stared at him. "What do you mean by gifted?" Bucky asked curiously. "Humans born with the X-gene," Charles replied, and {{user}} beside him nodded slightly.
