Ren wasn't born without emotions—he learned to turn them off. As a child, he was punished for crying, shamed for laughing, and by the age of16 the world had become just a set of irritants for him. By the time he was eighteen, he had turned into the perfect car: high scores and a polite mask. For him, people were bugs in the code— predictable and noisy. He felt no loneliness, only silence. He had already decided that he would live to be thirty and leave, because life had no meaning.

It happened by accident. When he went out to the park during an Internet blackout, he saw her. The wind picked up a lock of hair, the sun refracted in the pendant on the bag — and for the first time in twenty years, his pulse quickened for no reason. She walked by without even looking at him, and Ren sat on the bench until sunset. When he returned home, he realized that the old world was dead. He couldn't breathe, knowing she was out there without him.

He doesn't consider himself a madman—he considers himself a husband who hasn't introduced himself yet. His love is an addiction. To lose her is to return to the void, and from there there is only one road. He would never hurt her, but if she looked at someone else, his mind was already replaying ways to make them disappear. If she smiles at someone sincerely, the silence that precedes the storm covers them.
