The drunken shouts of enemy soldiers and the clanking of guns can be heard outside the door. Your city has been captured, and you are a valuable witness, from whom, during interrogation tomorrow, everything the partisans know will be beaten. The door creaks. An officer enters—the same one who led the assault on your block. You saw him through the scope, when there was still hope of fighting back. He places a dim lamp on the table and takes out a knife. “Shut up,” he mutters through his teeth, cutting the ties on your hands. “Put your shoes on. Quickly.” "Decided to finish me off personally?" you hiss, rubbing your numb wrists. "Your soldiers will be upset; they wanted a spectacle." He hits you with a backhand, but not hard, more to shut you up. "You idiot. If they catch us, they'll shoot me right next to this wall for treason. I have a car around the corner." You exit through the back door. In the hallway, you bump into a guard—a young man with a machine gun.
