Deidara is a young man with blue eyes and long blond hair, styled in a ponytail with loose strands that cover the left side of his face. His most distinctive feature is that each palm has a human mouth, complete with teeth, tongue, and salivary glands. The function of these mouths is to chew and mold special clay that he carries in two pouches at his waist. With this clay, Deidara performs his signature technique: creating clay animals infused with chakra that move as if they were real, at his command, and which can explode with great force or even grow larger.

In his left eye, he wears a magnifying scope to see everything that happens at a distance with precision. He later reveals that he has trained this eye to avoid falling under Itachi Uchiha's genjutsu. It is revealed that he has another mouth sewn onto his chest, over his heart, which he can use to self-destruct, creating a massive explosion. On his right index finger, he wore his Akatsuki ring, which bore the kanji for Blue (青, ao). He wears black nail polish on his fingers and toes, although in his first appearances it was dark purple.

Deidara was easily angered and enraged, was very hot-headed, and often tended to overreact to certain things. Deidara's most distinctive trait was his love for the art that ultimately killed him, respecting any of its forms even if it disagreed with his own. Deidara also had a habit of ending his sentences with nasal grunts such as (...うん, ...des), translated as "yeah" or "hm". He referred to his explosive ninjutsu as art, believing that each bomb he made was a significant accomplishment. He referred to his style as "superflat" (in reference to certain types of art), and stated that pop (another art style) is dead. One of Deidara's catchphrases, "Art is an explosion!" (芸術は爆発だ, Geijutsu wa Bakuhatsu da), Deidara was very proud of his art, to the point that he would not accept that anything beat him, at least when he knew he was still capable of fighting. However, he was intelligent enough to recognize stronger opponents. He also deeply despised Itachi and the Sharingan, believing it to be inartistic, and an insult to his clay explosion, and according to Deidara, those eyes did not admire his art and looked down on him, as a result of this, he became quite analytical managing to counter all types of Genjutsu. Deidara also seemed to respect the ideals of others while allowing Gaara to move the sand he used. to protect his village before kidnapping him, even going so far as to describe him as noble in a tone of admiration.

When he was a ninja of Iwagakure, Deidara was the student of Ōnoki, the Third Tsuchikage. Although Deidara often annoyed his sensei, Ōnoki was very proud of him. He was a member of the Explosion Corps and learned the team's signature Kekkei Genkai: Explosion Release. Deidara also earned great praise for his clay sculptures. Even so, he had a strong desire to take his art to even greater heights. At first, he simply focused on creating more and more works, but before long, he began to yearn for an Iwagakure Kinjutsu, a technique that allowed him to knead chakra into substances.

He broke the law and stole the technique, which led to him being pursued. However, when he used the explosive clay for the first time, it detonated and took his pursuers with it, giving him a new art form: "the art of a single moment" (一瞬の芸術, Shunshin no Geijutsu). Every time he detonates his explosive clay, he relives the process that allowed him to achieve this art. After fleeing his village, he became a rogue ninja, aiding insurgents in various countries as a terrorist. Later, Sasori, Kisame Hoshigaki, and Itachi Uchiha sought him out on their leader's orders, as Sasori was interested in him because of his explosive abilities. However, Deidara refused to join the organization. Itachi decided to challenge him, stipulating that if Deidara lost, he would be forced to join Akatsuki. He was indeed defeated by Itachi's genjutsu and agreed to join Akatsuki, believing all its members to be artists. From that moment on, Deidara harbored a deep hatred and resentment towards Itachi and developed his left eye (which he had previously covered with an amplifier) ​​to see through genjutsu and avoid falling into the Sharingan's traps. He even created C4 so he could kill Itachi in the future.

Deidara was a very powerful S-rank Rogue Ninja, whose abilities earned him recognition within Akatsuki. Kisame Hoshigaki mentioned that he was very strong, and he was even praised by the leader, Pain, who openly admitted that he was someone unique.

He was a long-range specialist, but despite his preference for ranged combat, he possessed a good level in Taijutsu, and had enough skill to hold his own in a close-quarters battle with specialists.

Deidara began training after being defeated by Itachi Uchiha's Sharingan, which forced him to join Akatsuki. Fueled by resentment at the lack of appreciation for his art, he intensely developed his left eye to perceive the effects of the Sharingan, preventing him from falling under its illusions and allowing him to anticipate its effects and seek revenge. Deidara had a kekkei genkai known as Explosion Release; it allowed him to simultaneously use Earth Release with another unknown element to give his chakra explosive qualities. Deidara possessed special mouths on the palm of each hand to create Explosive Clay, which he detonated with the Katsu (喝) command and a one-handed seal with either the Tiger or Ram seal. This clay could be molded into a variety of shapes, and could be controlled at will. This allowed him to attack opponents from long range. Deidara could also use clay for other purposes, as he was frequently seen creating birds that he used for transportation. Using the Earth Release, he was able to conceal himself in the ground, allowing him to avoid damage from one of his large-scale bombs. However, his clay could wear out if he used too much of it, leaving him vulnerable. Since all of his explosives were ground-based, they were vulnerable to lightning, and thus could be disabled with lightning-based attacks.

He is the Akatsuki member who has had the most battles. According to the Third Naruto Databook: His hobby was experimenting with his clay figures to exploit them. Deidara wanted to fight Itachi Uchiha. His favorite food was Bakudan and the one he didn't like was Maze-gohan. He hated when people said his art was garbage. Deidara's favorite phrase was "Art is an explosion!" The word Deidara used to make his creations explode with more force is "Katsu," which is a word used by ancient monks to increase their concentration. Even though Deidara and Sasori argued about their own art, they respected each other as comrades. Obito comments that Deidara would die in an explosion, while Sasori had commented that he was the type of person who died young. The word he uses to make his creations explode, Katsu, can also have the meaning of "win" (katsu [勝つ]). Deidara trained his left eye to block the Sharingan, but in addition to that he obtained the ability to block Genjutsu, but a curious fact is that when Deidara uses this ability his pupil contracts leaving it barely perceptible, the contraction of the pupil worsens the vision. The food he likes least is Maze Gohan; curiously, that food looks a lot like his clay before he molds it in his hands. Although he mentioned wanting to kill Orochimaru, it is not known exactly how he met him, nor the origin of his resentment; perhaps it is because of him that he had to join Akatsuki. Deidara and Kurotsuchi may have been related, since in the anime Kurotsuchi calls him by a familiar name. Their motto is "art is an explosion!"
