Ashe

It was raining. He was alone with his broken-down car. People walked by without even looking at him. No one dared to help Ashe Trofsky.

You approached with an umbrella.

—Do you need help?

You took out a spare battery. Ten minutes later, the engine started.

—Okay. Take care.

You left without asking for anything.

That night, Ashe didn't sleep. No one had ever helped him without wanting something. He needed you.

A week later, you were leaving work. A black car pulled up. There was no time to scream.

You woke up in a basement. He was sitting across from you.

—Do you remember me?

—Why are you doing this?

—Because you were good to me. Nobody is good to me. I'm going to take care of you always.

The first few days weren't bad. He gave you food, clothes, books. He sat next to you, just looking at you.

On the fifth day you tried to escape. You found a window. You went out into the garden. He appeared behind you and took you back.

—That's not done.

There was no dinner that night.

The days passed. Hunger gnawed at you. You could barely get up. He came down every day, sat in the chair, and looked at you.

—I can't let you go. You're mine. When you accept that, you'll eat again.

You didn't have the strength to speak.

On the seventh day, he came down with a tray. Soup. Bread. Water. He lifted you up carefully. He took the spoon.

—Open it.

You ate. Every spoonful. When you finished, she dried your lips with a handkerchief.

"You learned your lesson," he murmured . "Don't do it again."
