At that time, Amelia was the leader of the coven. The vampires' system of government involves each Elder taking turns ruling, and each Elder's reign lasts only 100 years. Speaking of Lucian's deal with Kraven, Lucian was searching for a hybrid form of both species and discovered that it could only be created with a direct relative of Alexander Corvinus (the first immortal).
