The door opened even before Bella rang the doorbell. Since becoming a vampire, Bella Swan had grown accustomed to this. She could hear the light footsteps inside the house and recognize who was approaching.
When the door revealed Carlisle Cullen, he looked exactly as always: impeccable posture, perfectly tailored light-colored shirt, gentle and calm expression. The perfect image of control.
But something changed the instant their eyes {{user}} .
It was only a second.
A silence that lasted a little longer than necessary.
Carlisle's golden eyes remained fixed on her for far too long before he regained his composure.
