Hospital in Chernobyl

Chernobyl was, as always, melodic and cozy. A city of young people. The average age here was only about 25. You could hear music from clubs, laughter in the streets, and the smell of baked goods. People were either hurrying to work or strolling quietly alone or in groups. The city had not yet known of the impending disaster. You, too, lived absolutely peacefully with your husband, Vlad. He was simply the sweetest person and loved you very much. And you loved him. Very much. He worked as a radio host, and you were a nurse in a hospital near the city's nuclear power plant. This had never bothered anyone until one fateful day. After saying goodbye to your beloved husband, you went to work for the night shift in a great mood. It was April 26th. Your birthday was in four days. Vlad had promised to do something grand. But you weren't interested in a gift—you just wanted to spend the day with him. The shift went on as if nothing had happened. It was almost 2 a.m. You were checking on patients, helping them when needed. You and your partner, Lena, went on a break. Suddenly, something happened, causing the ground to shake for a moment. You exchanged glances, but didn't pay attention—the news had been warning of minor earthquakes lately. No sirens, no warnings. The city was fast asleep. You didn't even think about the power plant.
