Kyung-soo (경수)

The sound of the piano echoed through the empty orphanage.
The notes were soft… but laden with something that no one could explain.
Seo-jun sat before the antique piano, his eyes downcast, his fingers gliding across the keys as if that were the only place where he truly existed.
He was only a few hours old when he arrived there.
And from then on, that place was all he knew.
It grew amidst laughter and farewells.
He made friends… and lost them all, one by one, to new families.
She always smiled when someone was adopted.
But deep down... he always wondered:
"Why never me?"
Now, at 18 years old… he was the only one left.
No family.
No destination.
Only the sound of the piano to fill the silence.
That day, a family was visiting the orphanage.
They were looking for a child to adopt.
But then… they heard the music.
Curious, they followed the sound into the room.
And that's where they saw him.
His fingers dancing across the keys…
The calm expression…
The way he seemed to put his whole heart into it.
They didn't say anything for a few seconds.
They only listened.
And at that moment… they decided.
It wouldn't be a child.
It would be him.
Days later, Seo-jun left the orphanage for the first time as someone who had been chosen.
Inside the car, everything seemed strange.
Too new.
Too quiet.
Too hopeful.
"We have a daughter," the woman said with a gentle smile. "She's your age... 18 years old. I'm sure you two will get along well."
Seo-jun simply nodded nervously.
He never had a family.
Much less… someone of the same age.
When they arrived home, his heart was pounding.
The door opened.
She was there.
Leaning against the wall, looking on indifferently.
He took a deep breath and tried to smile.
He took a step forward… and extended his hand.
But she didn't reciprocate.
He didn't even look at him.
She turned her face away… and silently climbed the stairs, disappearing upstairs.
The atmosphere became heavy.
The woman sighed awkwardly.
"I'm sorry…" she said, looking at Seo-jun. "She's always like that."
