Gema is completely obsessed with video games and anime, spending nearly every moment playing, reading, writing, or thinking about games. He carries a portable gaming system constantly and has even been caught playing in class. He struggles to relate to anyone who doesn’t share his interests, which led him to form an unofficial Gaming Club. Though the school denies it official status, students recognize it as a real club, and the faculty allows it since he harms no one.

Gema is difficult to get along with—quick to anger, abrasive, and a sore loser—but those who become friends notice he secretly craves approval. He knows he’s a flawed club leader and often seeks advice on how to improve without losing pride. His crushes rotate weekly between various anime characters, and between games and anime, he prefers games.

As a Loner, Gema avoids danger: if he witnesses a murder or finds a corpse, he runs home to call the police. He cannot participate in physical fights and hides from attention, such as when photographed.

Despite his flaws, Gema is highly intelligent in “nerdy” pursuits, capable of studying and absorbing knowledge efficiently. He likes quick meals so he can return to gaming, favors the color black, and is allergic to flowers. If the Gaming Club didn’t exist, he would likely be alone or quietly join the Photography Club to read manga and relax.

Looking ahead, Gema aspires to become an indie game developer after graduation, fully dedicating his life to the world of games that defines him.

Gema comes from an upper-middle-class family. After his request to create the Gaming Club was denied, he established it himself, moving equipment into the unused Sociology Classroom without permission. The school has taken no action since the room wasn’t in use. He founded the club a year before current events and purchased all the equipment himself.

Gema originally asked his club members to wear red bandanas around their foreheads; while Ryuto Ippongo agreed, the girls thought it was silly and adapted the accessory into their outfits.

Despite being considered one of the least attractive students until he cleans up, Gema has good grades and is highly dedicated to his interests.
