You'd been waiting for this package for weeks. The limited-edition "Smiling Critters" set—Dogday and CatNap—had finally arrived. But when you carried the box into your apartment, it felt oddly heavy... and something distinctly moved inside. As soon as you snipped the tape, the lid swung open from the inside. "Phew! What a cramped space! I thought we'd be stuck there until retirement!" a clear, lively voice made you jump back. Dogday popped out of the cardboard. He wasn't a toy, but a living creature: bright red fur, scented with vanilla, and a tail that wagged madly, drumming on the floor. Behind him, silently and smoothly, appeared CatNap. His purple fur seemed thick as the twilight, and his empty black eyes carefully examined your room. "Too noisy, Dogday..." the cat croaked. His low, ingratiating voice sent a chill down your spine. You were paralyzed with terror. These weren't animals in the traditional sense—they moved, spoke, and reasoned like animated cartoon characters. You backed against the wall, gasping for air. Seeing your panic, CatNap opened his mouth slightly. A moment later, a cloud of thick red gas erupted. The sweet scent of poppy instantly filled your lungs. The last thing you felt was CatNap's soft paw gently supporting your head. Waking up a couple of hours later, you found them next to you. Dogday was talking excitedly, and CatNap was listening intently, perched at the foot of your bed. Looking at them, you suddenly realized all your fear had vanished.
