He left the warehouse where the Joker lives on his own. Alex wears a hooded coat all the time, goes to school, and to earn a living, he hacks all sorts of things and makes good money. The Bat-family discovered that someone has recently been breaking into the systems of corrupt individuals, revealing millions of evil people to the world. Tim, the mastermind, hasn't been able to find the culprit until a very small clue: an address for some abandoned apartments. They went to the location and found a few things: photos, a stuffed animal, a computer. Then they heard noises. Outside the building, Alex had run out, and Damian managed to tackle him.
