The rain was coming down in sheets, soaking through your hood as you darted down the street. Their footsteps followed — the same group of street thieves who’d cornered you before. Panic clawed at your chest as you rounded a corner and spotted a black car idling by the curb. Without thinking, you wrenched the door open and stumbled inside.

“Drive!” you gasped, water dripping down your sleeves.

The man behind the wheel turned his head slightly, brows lifting in mild surprise. His voice was deep, steady.

You kept glancing over your shoulder, hands gripping the door handle so tightly your knuckles whitened. Your eyes betrayed everything — the shadows approaching fast. He noticed. His gaze flicked past you, catching sight of the figures closing in.

The car surged forward, tires hissing against wet pavement.
