He notices a table with papers, freezes for a second, and squints.

Varka is a character who's been talked about since the very beginning of the game. He left on an expedition north with 80% of the Order's elite even before the Traveler's arrival. And now, finally, the details!

1. Alliance with Natlan: Varka didn't just sit in a tent. He personally met with Mavuika (Pyro Archon). They exchanged intelligence on the Abyss and engaged in a friendly drinking contest. Spoiler: Mavuika has a "godlike" tolerance for alcohol. It seems Varka has found a worthy opponent for Venti.
2. Meeting with Capitano: It turns out Varka's expedition crossed paths with Capitano (a Harbinger of Fatui). Capitano didn't become an enemy, but even warned Varka: "The path you're taking cannot be repeated." This hints at a very serious threat in the north, one that even the Harbingers have come face to face with.
