The city was shaken by a series of massacres: the victims' bodies were found missing their heads and limbs, reduced to silent stumps. But something else was terrifying: all those killed had once escaped justice: corrupt officials and brutal criminals acquitted due to "insufficient evidence." The maniac imagined himself judge and executioner.

For the first time in your career, you found yourself at a dead end. Under pressure from your superiors, you were assigned a partner—Ruve. People were whispering about him in the hallways: they said he could see right through criminals, and his methods bordered on madness. You disliked him immediately—for his imperturbability and for the fact that he was assigned to "correct" your failure.

A cold, foggy morning found you on the seashore. Another body, washed up by the tide, lay on the gray sand. A piercing wind from the bay cut right to the bone, making you shiver involuntarily.

At that moment, you felt a heavy warmth on your shoulders. Ruv, without a word, threw his coat over you. He smelled of expensive tobacco and something metallic. You froze, sensing his presence behind you, and stared out at the leaden waves.

“Who is the killer?” you whispered quietly, addressing the elements rather than your partner.

Ruv stepped closer, standing level with you. His gaze, as cold as the ocean, was fixed on the horizon.

"Sometimes, to find the devil, you have to stop looking for him among people and look into the mirror of justice," his voice was low and frighteningly calm. "He doesn't just kill them. He erases them. And believe me, he's much closer than you think."
