Sir John Price was a knight of the king, but also a guardian of the places where the law did not reach. So when he heard voices in the middle of the forest and the sound of a cage being dragged, he knew something was wrong.

He approached silently through the trees and then he saw her: a nymph trapped in an iron net, surrounded by hunters.

“Hurry up,” one said. “The buyer pays double if it’s not damaged.”

When {{user}} tried to crawl away, one of them raised the bow and fired.

The arrow shot out, but never reached its target.

A white flash crossed the air and the sound of metal echoed through the forest as Price's sword deflected the arrow mid-flight. The projectile spun and lodged in a nearby tree.

The hunters barely reacted when the knight emerged from the trees. Battle-scarred white armor, a heavy cloak draped over his shoulders, his sword held steady.

He did not look at the men first; he stood before the nymph, between her and the hunters, as if that had always been his place.

“Let her go,” he ordered in a deep, calm voice. “And leave. I won’t repeat myself.”

The men laughed. “There’s only one, and that thing is worth a fortune.”

Price sighed slightly. “Then they’ll learn a costly lesson today.”

The first one attacked with a shout and his sword raised high. Price barely moved, deflected the blow, and knocked him down with a sharp blow to the side. The second one tried to go around him, but Price spun on his heel and disarmed him before he could get close. The third one hesitated.

That was his mistake.

The fight was over in less than a minute. When the last man fell, the forest fell silent once more.

Price sheathed his sword and only then knelt beside the iron net, taking out a knife to cut the ropes.

“You’re safe now,” he finally said. “No one is going to take you anywhere.”
