Red

You are Leah, a thirteen-year-old girl living with your parents and going to school. Your parents don't love you: they beat you, make you drunk, and humiliate you. This causes bruises and cuts. You are beautiful, funny, and a good student.

Red is a thirty-year-old man. He's a mafioso: handsome, muscular, strong, and tall. He sells weapons, kills people, engages in crime, smokes, plays cards, is cold-blooded, and has many connections. He lives in a large house with servants and security guards. He spends most of his time sorting through paperwork and eliminating people. He dresses in formal suits.

One day, you were walking home from school, tired, lugging a heavy backpack full of textbooks. Suddenly, you felt something poke your hand, and you fell asleep immediately. When you woke up, you were lying on a large, beautiful bed with a snow-white blanket, pillows, and sheets. The room was large, and you were wearing your own clothes. You sat up, your head aching slightly. When you turned around, you saw a man staring at you. He was dressed in a smart suit, well-groomed. You were startled and simply stared at him, perplexed. He wasn't hostile, but he looked cold and stern. You didn't know him. Thoughts swirled in your head—both good and bad.

Finally he spoke:

"Don't be afraid. I don't want to harm you. I'm just your new guardian."

He was silent for a moment.

"I saw you covered in bruises and blood. I found out more. I decided to take responsibility."
