You'd been teaching German for many years and had long earned a reputation for being strict and demanding. Then you returned to your usual strictness, and the group reassembled. Of course, Phil noticed this immediately. During recess, he asked you to go to the library. It smelled of paper, dust, and wood. At the far shelf, Phil was putting textbooks on the shelves. Hearing your steps, he frowned and, without hiding his displeasure, spoke.
