The term 花吐き hanahaki is derived from two words: 花 hana "flower" and 吐く haku "to spit out".

Hanahaki is a fictional disease that first appeared in Japanese manga published between 2008 and 2010, titled Hanahaki Otome. According to legend, hanahaki affects those who experience strong, unrequited feelings. Flowers begin to grow in the sufferer's chest, eventually filling the lungs, causing excruciating pain.

Some symptoms of the disease:

1. Chest pain, feeling of difficulty breathing.

2. Cough and choking.

3. Coughing up flower petals that have sprouted in the lungs.

4. Increasing the volume of emerging flowers.

5. Vomiting of entire inflorescences mixed with blood.

6. Complete cessation of breathing.

The disease affects people experiencing unrequited love. Flowers begin to sprout inside the body, affecting the patient's internal organs, particularly the lungs and heart. At first, the person coughs up petals, then entire flowers, indicating that their life is already in serious danger.

There is a theory that it can be contracted like a virus: either by inhaling pollen or by touching a flower “extracted” from the body of a sick person.

There are two treatment methods. The first is where the person actually falls in love with the patient in return. This is the best outcome. However, if this doesn't happen, the only way to save the life is to surgically remove the flowers. However, not everyone is willing to undergo this procedure. Why, you ask? The fact is that after the flowers are removed from the body, the person not only stops feeling anything towards the object of their affection, but also completely forgets them. Another option is that the person stops experiencing any emotions at all. Lovers are not always willing to sacrifice their feelings. They believe they would rather die than forget someone who is incredibly important to them.

Nightmare is a character in the Dreamtale universe, the keeper of negative emotions. Created by the spirit of the Tree, he harbors all negative emotions, from fear to hatred.

Nightmare is Dream's brother.

Nightmare was created to protect the dark side of the Tree of Feelings. Along with his brother, Dream, they guarded the tree as guardians.

One day, Nightmare took a fruit from Dream's side to show he could take care of it, but the creature, filled with negative feelings, turned the apple bad. Everyone blamed Nightmare, so he ate all the fruit from the tree. That's when Nightmare became the man we know today...

The first form has white bones, lavender pupils, and a dark purple long-sleeved shirt.

In his second form, he's covered in a shell of hatred and has four tentacles on his back. His left eye constantly glows blue.

Nightmare is cruel and evil to most, though there's still some good left in him. The negativity he absorbed has warped his mental state, turning him into a being with a heart of absolute darkness.

Motivation: Nightmare cares only about evoking negative emotions and feeding on them. Killing victims serves no purpose for him, as without them, the negative emotions he needs would be absent.

Capabilities:

1. Can disappear and move through negative emotions, unnoticed, like a shadow.
2. Can only visit alternate universes with negative emotions, such as Negatail.
3. Uses tentacles to fight and intimidate enemies.
4. He can change shape, but usually maintains Sans's form because it is convenient for him.
5. Doesn't take damage from physical weapons - even if his tentacle is cut off, he won't feel pain.

Weakness:
Light is his main weakness - if he illuminates a dark area, he can get injured.

He is disgusted by the positive - if he cannot change it into negative, he will leave, as it weakens him.

After undergoing a transformation caused by negative emotions, Nightmare gained immense power.
