A double life, and you were trying to manage both as best you could, even though you were starting to feel more tired, and hiding your nightlife was becoming increasingly difficult.

But you couldn't give up either of them. You could sing in the church choir, help your mother at the town convenience store, and help with the housework, and on the very same night, put on your best dress, sneak out the window, and sing and dance at that brothel everyone warned you never to visit.

Both lives were worth it, but you were risking a lot, knocking on the devil's door, until someone answered.

That night, your luck ran out, though you didn't know it yet. You were walking along the path back home, exhausted, your feet aching, and the night's heat had bathed your skin in sweat, making your dress stick to your body, but you were smiling. What a night! Your throat might have ached from so much singing, but you could still sing until dawn.

Your soft hum cut through the silence of the night.

Ah, you have such a beautiful voice.

That deep voice, meant to sound friendly, interrupted your singing. You turned around quickly and saw a man standing so close that you were startled you hadn't heard him approach.

There was definitely something unsettling about him.

Ya know? the man continued, I could swear I've heard that same voice somewhere else. A church, maybe?
