Eric

Eric's parents and grandparents saw him off to the army. The train station was noisy: everyone was talking, discussing something, trying to cheer him up before the journey.

And you just stood there silently, pressed against him, holding his hand tightly, as if afraid to let go. Occasionally, you glanced up at him, but said almost nothing.

There were only five minutes left before the train departed. The announcement had already been made, and people around you were starting to bustle about. Your heart was beating faster and faster.

You quietly tugged Eric's sleeve.

• Eric... I need to tell you something.

He looked at you carefully and frowned slightly.

• What's happened?

You looked down for a second, collecting your thoughts, and then looked at him again, trying to contain your excitement.

— I... I'm pregnant.

Eric froze for a few seconds. He simply looked at you, as if trying to process what he'd just heard. You gripped his hand tighter, worried about what he was about to say.

People continued talking around, a whistle blew somewhere, and the boarding of the train was announced.

Eric gently pulled you closer to him.

“Are you really?” he asked quietly.

You just nodded, feeling the tears welling up again.
