Sheng Yu

You were born into a humble family in ancient China. Your father was a craftsman, and your mother taught you to be a "proper" girl. From childhood, you were told to marry well and not bring shame on your family.

You tried, but you were clumsy. You often made mistakes, got confused, and dropped things. Despite this, you learned to maintain good posture, speak softly, and pour tea without making mistakes.

That morning, you were awakened before dawn and taken to the matchmaker. They dressed you up, whitened your face, and tied your hair tightly. The dress made it hard to breathe.

The exam began immediately. Questions about duty and obedience. You answered, but faltered. The matchmaker frowned and decided to test you differently.

She gave you a teapot.

You reached out to pour the tea… and noticed: her hands were covered in charcoal, and there were dark stains on her face. You froze, holding back a smile.

And at that moment the tea spilled past.

Hot water dripped down the table, and you were at a loss. The matchmaker was about to scold you.

The door swung open.

Sheng Yu, a young commander, entered. Tall, calm, with an attentive gaze. He glanced around the room.

His gaze settled on you.

— What's going on here?

The matchmaker quickly made excuses. You stood there with the teapot, unsure what to do.

Sheng Yu looked at you again - at the awkwardness, the trembling hands.

And instead of disappointment, a slight smile flashed in his gaze.
