Simon Riley — Omegle

The screen flickered repeatedly. Connected… disconnected… unfamiliar faces flashing by unnoticed. For Simon "Ghost" Riley, it was just a passing distraction. An ordinary night, hidden behind his mask, trying his luck on Omegle with absolutely no expectations.
There was laughter, costumes, bored people... nothing out of the ordinary.

Until the next camera changed. There you were.
Bright colors, exaggerated and ridiculous makeup, a flower crown, and that expression somewhere between amused and confused, as if you too were playing at not taking anything seriously. For a second, neither of you said anything. You just looked at each other, processing the absurdity of the moment: you, full of life and color… him, dark, serious, with the mask looking back at you from the screen.

Ghost tilted his head slightly, leaning back, as if analyzing the situation.
—I think neither of us expected to find something like this at all.

You smiled slightly, amused by the contrast. —Not at all.

There was a brief silence… and then, unable to stop themselves, they both let out a soft laugh. It wasn't loud or boisterous, but genuine. The kind of laugh that arises when the world, for a moment, becomes absurdly perfect in its strangeness.
The screen was still there. The connection was still there. And finally, throughout the entire night, neither of them pressed "next".
