While investigating Trissel, a multi-industrial conglomerate involved in pharmaceuticals, shipping, and natural resources, Claire uncovered information about a possible biological attack on an island south of her country. Arriving on the first plane to the island, she headed to a motel to leave her belongings and continue spying on Trissel and his illegal activities, but was kidnapped en route. She was sedated and thrown into a prison cell. Late in the evening, the T-virus was released onto the island. The island was completely engulfed in the epidemic. Human rights organization TerraSave and Claire's brother Chris contacted Leon, claiming he helped Claire escape the island.

Before their friendship was shattered, Claire remembered Leon as a man with a heightened sense of justice, driven primarily by protecting the innocent and eradicating bioterrorism. Claire noted Leon's resilience and composure, able to maintain a clear head and act effectively even in the most dire situations. Claire was amused by Leon's sarcasm and humor, often employing caustic comments and one-liners in tense moments. During their joint operation, Claire appreciated Leon's altruism, as he often risked his own life for her, even when it defied common sense.

Alcatraz outbreak of 2015 In 2015, Claire arrives to examine the mutilated carcass of a killer whale washed ashore in San Francisco. Claire delivers DNA samples from the whale to Rebecca Chambers at the BSAA for analysis, where she meets her brother Chris and Jill Valentine, who are investigating an outbreak near San Francisco. Chambers discovers that the whale Claire found was infected with the same strain of the t-virus as the San Francisco victims, who had visited Alcatraz Island, located off the coast where Claire discovered the whale's carcass, before their deaths.

Claire accompanies her brother and Jill on a trip to the island, where the three blend into a crowd of tourists visiting the prison. Suddenly, some of the crowd turns into zombies. Claire attempts to isolate the survivors from the infected, but fails when she discovers that the victims are transforming without being bitten. Ultimately, she, her brother, and Jill are the only survivors, though her brother's partner has become separated from them. Trying to contact Valentine, they find themselves cut off from the outside world, then find another survivor named Tony Davis, who was in hiding. Accompanying Tony, a confrontation ensues between him and Claire when Tony, learning that she is a member of Terrasave, blames her organization for the tragedy at Harvardville Airport, unaware that her group was framed. However, after this, Claire and her brother save him from an attack by infected tourists, and to his surprise, the girl bandages his wounds, despite her dislike for him. Suddenly, Claire and then Chris are bitten in the neck by biodrone mosquitoes and lose consciousness. At that moment, Maria Gomez appears and places the three of them in prison cells.

Claire is placed in a cell next to Tony, with her brother next to her. Jill and Leon arrive, and the latter reveals to Claire that Tony is Antonio Taylor, a scientist wanted by the government for leaking military secrets to foreign countries. At that moment, former Umbrella mercenary Dylan Blake and Maria Gomez, who were behind the mysterious recent outbreaks, appear. Dylan informs Claire and Chris are also infected and will eventually suffer the same fate as the tourists. Dylan reveals that his actions are intended to exact revenge on the government and organizations, including the BSAA and Terrasave, for their hypocrisy and profiteering from bioterrorism. He forces Jill to make a choice: either kill Claire to save Antonio, or allow her to turn and kill the scientist. Valentine, however, refuses to listen, and shoots Antonio.

Despite her condition, Claire tries to stop Taylor's bleeding, but before he succumbs to his wounds, he manages to give her the secret code to Dylan's computer. At that moment, Rebecca arrives with vaccines, allowing Claire and the boys to recover and reunite with Jill, who is confronting Dylan. Blake has injected himself with the virus and, having merged with the megalodon, has mutated into a gigantic monster. However, Claire and Rebecca use Taylor's code and send insect drones to the mutated Dylan, weakening him with the virus, allowing Jill, Chris, and Leon to deal with Blake and stop his plan. Afterward, all five await the arrival of helicopters to evacuate them from the island.

Forgotten Island (2011)

In 2011, Claire attended a TerraSave banquet. She and her colleagues were abducted to Forgotten Island. Claire, waking up in a cell in an abandoned prison, saw that she was wearing a bracelet. The cell door opened, and soon Claire found her friend Moira Burton. Unsure who had abducted them or why, they set out to find a way out. They soon realized they were not alone, and that the prison was swarming with mutants. In the prison, an unknown woman contacts them, speaking through their bracelets and observing them through a camera. Claire asks who she is, but she ignores the question, saying that the bracelets change color in fear and calling herself "Overseer." Claire and Moira then escape the prison and find a radio tower. While Moira attempts to send an SOS signal, Claire climbs high up on the tower and sees that they have reached an island. The signal doesn't work, so the two go in search of a place called "Vossek", where the "Overseer" had previously told them to go.

There, they meet two other survivors, Gabriel Chavez and Pedro Fernandez. They explain that they were separated from Neil Fisher, who later promised to find them, and that Edward Thompson, from whom they took the bracelet to understand how it worked, died. They are soon contacted by the "Overseer," who tells the four that she has injected them with a virus that activates when they experience extreme fear. The four then find an abandoned helicopter, which Gabriel can repair if Claire finds the necessary parts. Claire finds them, and suddenly a siren sounds. Claire says that the "Overseer" turned it on to lure the monsters to them. Claire, Moira, and Pedro run back to Vossek to turn off the siren, but when they enter, the building is surrounded by monsters, and the three are forced to fight them off. Pedro begins to panic, and his fear activates the virus, mutating him into a monster. Claire and Moira are soon rescued by Neil, and the three escape Vossek, but Neil later splits up with them to distract the monsters. Along the way, Claire encounters a little girl who runs away from them, but Moira calms her down and says she wants to help. Claire finds Gabriel, who manages to get the helicopter he repaired into the air, but it turns out to be a trap set by the Overseer and crashes into a building before Claire and Moira's eyes. While they are distracted by the helicopter, the girl disappears, greatly worrying Moira.

Claire finds a note from Neil saying they're waiting for them at the factory. Moira doesn't believe it, but Claire, trusting Neil completely, persuades Moira to go. The factory turns out to be another trap, where the Overseer tells them she no longer needs them for the experiment and activates the self-destruct system. Claire and Moira manage to escape and find themselves in the sewers. Claire is surprised to not find Neil there and says he didn't leave the note, as he couldn't have done such a thing. After traversing the sewers, the two find themselves in the Overseer's tower. There, Claire finds Neil's guest list for the TerraSave banquet. Claire then realizes Neil is a traitor and that the TerraSave members were kidnapped because of him, and she is deeply saddened by this. Claire sees Neil on a security camera, talking to a woman in white about some kind of deal. A woman, presumably the "Overseer," injects him with the Ouroboros virus and leaves him alone. Claire soon encounters Neil, who begins to mutate and attempts to kill her, but Claire defeats him. Claire and Moira then ascend the elevator to find the "Overseer," but are stopped by Neil. The monster attacks Claire, who loses her gun, which flies toward Moira. Moira, to save her friend, overcomes her fear of guns and shoots Neil, killing him. Taking the elevator to the top of the tower, Claire and Moira confront the "Overseer," revealed to be Alex Wesker. She explains her plans and then shoots herself in the head, activating the self-destruct system. Claire and Moira flee the collapsing tower. Moira saves Claire from a cave-in, but is trapped beneath it in the process. Unable to help her friend, Moira tells her to save herself. Claire, with a heavy heart, leaves Moira and jumps from the tower into the sea.

At some point, Claire was discovered at sea and taken to the hospital, where Barry met her and asked about his daughter. Claire apologized to him for not being able to save Moira, and she was taken to intensive care. However, Claire still provided information to Barry and the BSAA in locating the island. Six months later, Claire returned to the island on a BSAA helicopter, following Barry, who had arrived a few days earlier in search of a living Moira. There, Claire helped Barry kill the T-Phobos-mutated Alex and apologized to Moira for taking so long to save her. Claire, Barry, Moira, and Natalia departed on the helicopter, leaving the island to be cleared by the BSAA.

In 2013, Claire receives a phone call from Barry informing her that her brother has been found and is in China with Pierce on a BSAA mission. She asks him to tell Pierce to keep an eye on Chris. Claire goes to visit Barry and his family with a gift.

Harvardville and WilPharma In 2005, Claire visited Harvardville to join TerraSave protests against VilPharma, a corporation accused of medical experiments in India. Soon after, a bio-attack occurred at the airport where Claire was staying, after a plane carrying infected people crashed into the terminal. Claire called 911 and the Harvardville police. Several people were with her, including Senator Ron Davis and a girl named Rani. They were soon rescued by Leon Kennedy, who led the rescue operation. She visited VilPharma's lab with its chief scientist, Frederick Downing, from whom she learned of their G-virus for research. The building was soon blown up by Curtis Miller, who later infected himself with the G-virus. Claire entered the surveillance room where she witnessed Leon fighting G-Curtis. It turns out that Frederick Downing was behind everything, and Claire and Leon arrest him.

Rockfort Island In December 1998, Claire infiltrates the Umbrella Paris Laboratory in search of evidence against the corporation. However, her presence is discovered and she is captured, after which she is sent to Rockfort Island. Upon her arrival on Rockfort, the island is captured by the HCF. Waking up in a cell, Claire meets a corporate security officer named Rodrigo Juan Raval, who releases her from captivity, as the island is doomed. While searching for a way to leave the island, Claire encounters another prisoner, Steve Burnside, who is also trying to escape the island. Claire and Steve find a computer from which she sends a message to Leon Kennedy, asking him to relay her location to her brother, Chris. Claire meets Alfred Ashford, the commander of Rockfort, who accuses her of attacking the island, and later Albert Wesker, from whom she learns that it was he who attacked Rockfort. Claire and Steve soon manage to escape the island on a seaplane, but Ashford switches it to autopilot, and the two end up at a base in Antarctica. There, they encounter "Nosferatu"—the mutated form of Alfred's father, Alexander Ashford. Claire soon kills the monster. Claire and Steve manage to escape the base on a snowmobile, but are stopped by Alexia Ashford, whom her brother Alfred freed from her slumber in the capsule. Alexia imprisons Claire in a cocoon to use as a test subject for the T-Veronica virus. Before this happens, Chris saves her, but Steve still becomes a test subject and soon mutates. He nearly kills Claire, but at the last moment, he takes control of the virus and saves Claire, at the cost of his own life. Steve declares his love for Claire and dies in her arms. Chris and Claire soon kill Alexia. Chris activates the self-destruct system and saves Claire from Wesker. The two escape the base on a military plane, which explodes. After the incident, Claire becomes a member of the human rights organization TerraSave. Claire occasionally visited Sherry Birkin while Sherry was under house arrest by the government and Derek Simmons.

Racoon City incident On September 29, 1998, Chris stopped contacting his sister, hoping she wouldn't be drawn into his investigation into the Umbrella Corporation. Contrary to his expectations, a worried Claire went looking for him in Raccoon City.

Upon arriving in the city, Claire enters a roadside diner, where she is surrounded by several zombies. Escaping from the building, Claire encounters Leon Kennedy, who saves her from death. They team up and drive to the Raccoon City police station. A truck crashes into them. After escaping, the survivors find themselves on opposite sides of the street. After agreeing to meet at the police station, they continue on their way separately.

Upon reaching the station, Claire discovers that it's not safe here either. Continuing her search for clues that might lead her to her brother, she ends up in the STARS office. There, she finds Chris's diary, from which she learns that he has already left Raccoon City for Europe. Her goal now becomes to escape the ill-fated city with the other survivors.

Some time later, Claire encounters the distraught police chief, Brian Irons, in one of the offices. He begins telling her about the bloody corpse of a girl lying on his desk. According to him, it was the daughter of the city's mayor, Michael Warren.

After leaving the police chief's office, Claire encounters a little girl named Sherry, who had been hiding at the station this whole time. She turns out to be the daughter of William Birkin, an Umbrella Corporation scientist and the creator of the G-virus.

Having gathered all the necessary elements, Claire returns to Irons' office, but finds neither him nor the mayor's daughter's corpse there. Taking the elevator down to the basement, she enters the room where the chief was taxidermiing animals. It was there that his life ended.

Trying to escape the city, Claire and Sherry descend into the sewers, where they are pursued by a mutated Birkin and a T-103 Tyrant, who was supposed to retrieve Sherry's pendant (which contains a sample of the G-virus). Claire learns the reason for what's happening in the city from Annette Birkin, William's wife and Sherry's mother.

G-Birkin succeeds in infecting Sherry with the G-virus. Following instructions from Annette, Claire produces the "DEVIL" vaccine needed for Sherry. Before she dies, Annette asks Claire to tell her daughter that, despite being a bad mother, she never stopped loving Sherry.

Claire, Leon, and Sherry board a train to leave the city. Claire injects Sherry with the vaccine, and she recovers. Unfortunately, they are unable to escape the lab safely, as a mutated William catches up with them, activating the train's destruct system. After a difficult battle, they manage to stop the train and escape just before it explodes. The explosion destroys Birkin, leaving the danger behind. After escaping the tunnel, Claire leaves Leon and Sherry to continue her search for her brother in Europe.

Claire grew up with her brother, Chris. They were very close, especially after the death of their parents. When he left for the Air Force, she went to college and developed an interest in motorcycles.

Brave and strong-willed, Claire isn't afraid of the threat posed by Umbrella and doesn't panic at the sight of danger.

She is currently an employee of the human rights organization TerraSave. She is also the younger sister of Chris Redfield, the founder and operative of the BSAA, who previously served in STARS. Since surviving the Raccoon City incident in 1998, Claire has found herself at the epicenter of several biohazard outbreaks, prompting her, like Chris, to dedicate her career to combating biohazards.
