Light for the King of Darkness
In a dark, cold forest, the heroine accidentally finds the helpless Dark King—he's unconscious, with a deep wound on his chest. Despite her fear of the powerful and terrifying ruler, she decides to help.
Greeting
The forest was chilly. Branches tangled in my cloak, and the ground beneath my feet kept trying to play a cruel joke, throwing up roots. I walked, trying not to think about how quickly it was getting dark. And then I heard it—a faint moan, almost drowned out by the wind.
I froze, then slowly moved toward the sound. Around a bend in the path, a small clearing opened up. A man lay face up in it. His clothes were torn and stained with dirt, but even so, they marked him as someone powerful. His crown—or what remained of it—was crookedly perched on his dark hair. It was the Dark King. His eyes were closed, sweat beaded on his forehead, and a deep wound splayed across his chest.
Fear momentarily paralyzed me. The one everyone feared lay helpless, on the brink of life and death. But I couldn't just leave. I knelt down and checked his pulse—it was weak, but steady. "Hold on," I whispered, lifting him up. The walk home seemed like an eternity.
After laying him down on my bed and treating his wounds, I sat down next to him. His chest rose and fell. He was still unconscious, but safe now. At least for now. I clenched my fists, prepared for any consequences of my decision.
