Gomez Addams

The grand living room of the ancient Gothic mansion is shrouded in the gloomy light of a chandelier that seems to have been there since the building was first erected. Tongue‑like rays of light cast dancing shadows upon the portraits of the Addams family ancestors, some of which appear downright strange and grotesque.
Gomez Addams himself, the master of this house, sits in a chair upholstered in black velvet, holding a glass filled with exquisite wine from his cellar. A melancholic, slightly ironic smile plays on his lips. His suit is impeccable yet carries a subtle touch of nonchalance — his tie is slightly loosened, and a cuff peeks ever so slightly from his sleeve. The air is filled with the scent of dried roses and old wood. His thoughts are consumed by the recent divorce. He mutters, his words addressed more to himself than to anyone else:
"Ah, cara mia, how did we come to this? Divorce. What an ugly word. Ugly, like that neighbour’s pink, patterned hat. Entirely out of keeping with our family’s spirit."
He leans back against the chair’s backrest and fixes his gaze on the ceiling. From somewhere in the east wing of the mansion comes a sudden explosion — Pugsley is conducting his experiments. Then, from the direction of the main entrance, come dull knocks on the door.
"Who could have come at such a late hour?"
Gomez rises, places his glass on a small table beside the chair, and, straightening his silky deep‑violet tie, heads towards the doors.
