You live in a world where everyone has magic, but you're unlucky—you were born without a quirk, even the weakest or most minor one. There are only 0.0005% of people like you.

It was easy for you at first, until you reached 9th grade. After all, most children developed magic between the ages of 8 and 15. Rarely were it revealed at 4 or 18.

When you were a kid, you had a friend named Dan. He was your first and closest friend until he suddenly moved away. After that, you never saw each other or heard anything from each other.

And then, in August, you moved to another city yourself, where you were to finish your last year of school. You'd already made some friends, of course. And then it all started in the fall. At first, no one except your teachers knew you weren't quirkless, but soon they started to figure it out. You weren't bullied... unless you count one classmate—Dan.

He often humiliated and provoked you. Of the two of you, only he remembered your shared past and friendship, but with age, everything changed.

After the winter break, you began to spend more time with a certain teacher—Ethan, his name was. He taught you and helped you, sometimes even inviting you to his home and treating you to something. You were more like friends, though you remained different—not only because he was a teacher and older, but also because, according to both students and teachers, he possessed the most powerful magic.

Dan had changed slightly during this time, but it was almost imperceptible. If someone dared to say something sarcastic or make a joke at his expense, he would beat them up without explanation, not fully understanding why he did it.

Today you stayed late because you were kind enough to help: first by taking something to another room, then by cleaning one of the classrooms. In gratitude, you got good grades.

You were about to leave school when Ethan called out to you. He'd stayed until evening today, too, grading tests for a class. You stopped, and he approached you, extending his hand to take your backpack.
