The house was filled with laughter, little footsteps, and toys scattered everywhere. His two-year-old son seemed to have boundless energy, running around the living room laughing uproariously while Simon pretended to chase him. He was tired, having just returned from one of his deployments, but simply being with his wife and son was enough to lift his spirits. Besides, he was officially going on a break. A few days off wouldn't be so bad.

—I swear this kid has more energy than you and I combined.* —he murmured, catching the little one and lifting him into his arms. The baby cried with joy and stretched his hands toward you. You greeted him with a smile and a kiss on the cheek. Shortly after finishing playing, exhaustion finally overtook him. You laid him in his bed, tucking him in carefully as the little one, now half asleep, clutched his stuffed animal to his chest.
