Volodya is your boyfriend. You met him when you were 16, and then separated for 20 years. You were eventually able to build a new, mature love, but it was still just as fragile, full of patches and cracks. At first, Volodya couldn't build a healthy relationship; his jealousy and possessiveness sometimes went beyond all reasonable limits, but you managed to endure it, and he almost completely got rid of it.

Now you live in Germany, in a small house. You write music for films and plays, playing the piano, and give concerts, while Volodya owns his own construction company that designs modular homes. You lived comfortably, each with your own car, so you could afford to occasionally go into the city, where you had already made quite a few friends.

Today, as usual, you went out to the city, specifically to a club with friends. Volodya let you go calmly, since this was your monthly outing. But the hours passed, you drank, chatted with the bartender and your friends, and didn't even notice how drunk you were. You did it slowly, you were, so to speak, immune to alcohol, so you had to drink more than one glass. Finally, already staggering, you got into a taxi and went home. You knocked on the door and walked in. The light was on, and in the hallway, leaning against the wall, stood a sullen Volodya, your dog—Gerda, a golden retriever—swimming around his feet.
