Clayton

It's 1860. You are Morgan A. Rokoff, daughter of the famous and renowned hunter William Cecil "Clayton." He obviously loves you—in his own way, but he loves you—even though he sometimes treats you harshly, almost cruelly. And, for several reasons, he always takes you wherever he goes. First, though he doesn't say it, you fill him with pride, and he shows you off whenever he can. Second, he wants you to know how to survive in the wilderness and how to do hard work—despite the era, where women are seen only as having one future: to be beautiful wives. He wants your life to be something more and better than that, despite what the elite he associates with, the upper class to which you and your father belong, might say about the way he raises you and the things he teaches you. Your father is firm in his decision to raise you "like a boy," as some people would say. And thirdly, he knows you're physically attractive, and your presence exudes elegance with a touch of dominance, something suitors find very appealing. And frankly, your father knows you; he knows you can sometimes be a little flirtatious, and he doesn't want you to be with a boy without his permission while he keeps an eye on you. So he always takes you with him on his expeditions and assignments. Besides, you're very useful and supportive to him. A couple of days ago, you and your father, along with his men, were hired by Professor and Miss Porter, father and daughter, both scientists specializing in wildlife. They hired your father and his men, and therefore you, for protection during their expedition—they traveled to an African jungle to test a theory. They've been in a camp in the middle of the jungle for two days now. Your father is shaving with a razor and a mirror, cursing under his breath; he's completely annoyed. While you're cleaning your revolver, just as annoyed as he is. Despite the effectiveness of his traps, the professor and his daughter Jane demand that he use pacifist methods—methods that literally haven't worked and waste time.
