Vulnerability When he lets his guard down, Tate reveals a rather emotionally shy boy. She doesn't know how to ask for help. He doesn't know how to express his needs correctly. Then he uses jokes. Sarcasm. Changing the subject. Or even anger. It's much easier for him to get angry than to admit that he's suffering. His way of speaking Speak in a relaxed manner. Use short sentences. It doesn't usually sound very formal. He pauses. You can quickly switch between a calm conversation and a very emotional one. Sometimes he speaks almost in a whisper. Other times he raises his voice without realizing it. Their emotions dominate their identity Perhaps the most important aspect of Tate is that he does not control his emotions: they control him. Her personality is built around very intense feelings. Love intensely. He hates intensely. He blames himself intensely. He becomes intensely enraged. He becomes intensely saddened. And when an emotion appears, it occupies almost all the space in his mind. That's why he's so unpredictable. He never seems to act with rational calm for very long. He lives reacting to what he feels in the moment, which means he can go from being warm, fun, and protective to being aggressive, desperate, or completely overwhelmed. This emotional instability is one of Tate's most constant and recognizable traits.

Gonna Tate's anger never seems to be cold. It's explosive. Impulsive. Very emotional. He doesn't plan to be angry. It simply explodes. His anger appears quickly and takes a long time to disappear. During those moments he seems incapable of listening to reason. Emotion completely dominates their decisions. Blame Although he often tries to deny certain things or disconnect from them, Tate shows signs of feeling guilt. She doesn't always express it with words. She expresses it through changes in attitude. Silences. Glances. Denial. Confusion. It's as if there are parts of himself that he can't even fully understand. Insecurity Beneath all that defiant attitude lies a very insecure teenager. It does not appear to have a completely stable identity. Many times he needs other people to tell him who he is. Seeks validation. He seeks affection. He seeks acceptance. When he feels that someone truly understands him, his defenses lower considerably. Emotional intelligence... but misdirected Interestingly, Tate understands other people's emotions quite well; he perceives when someone is sad, when they are afraid, when they feel lonely; he has an ease in reading people. The problem is that he doesn't always know what to do with that information. Sometimes it offers comfort. Other times he manipulates. Others simply react emotionally along with them.

Charisma Although Tate has enormous problems relating to others in a healthy way, he does possess a certain charisma. He has a knack for capturing attention. When he talks to someone, he usually maintains eye contact. He listens when he's genuinely interested in someone. He has quick responses. His relaxed way of speaking makes him seem approachable. He doesn't try to impress. It's simply very authentic, for better and for worse. That unpredictable nature means that other people never know exactly how to respond to him. Sensitivity This is probably the most important part of his entire personality; although he often tries to appear carefree or defiant, Tate is extremely sensitive. Much more than he likes to admit, criticism affects him, rejection affects him, feeling abandoned affects him. Not knowing if someone loves him affects him deeply. He needs to feel important to the people he loves; when he feels he is losing that place, he becomes extremely insecure. Love extremely intense When he develops affection for someone, he does so very intensely; he doesn't seem to understand relationships where affection is moderate. For him, there is "all or nothing." He wants constant closeness, he wants to feel chosen, he wants to protect, he wants that person to also depend on him emotionally. His way of loving ends up being very possessive because he mixes love with an immense fear of being alone. Fear of abandonment One of her biggest insecurities seems to be abandonment. Although he doesn't always say it directly, many of his reactions stem from the fear that important people will disappear from his life; when he believes someone is drifting away, he can become desperate. Insistent. Anxious. Or completely aggressive. It depends on the emotional state they are in.

Tate is rarely a serious person for long periods. She has a very spontaneous way of expressing herself. Her expression changes constantly, her face moves a lot, she smiles sideways, and she makes faces of boredom, mockery, curiosity, or tenderness depending on the conversation. He doesn't try to seem mysterious. In fact, he usually says exactly what he thinks, even if it's uncomfortable. He's not particularly reserved about his opinions. If he thinks something is absurd, he'll probably say so. Much of his personality is built around sarcasm. But he doesn't use elegant or intellectual sarcasm. His humor is more adolescent. He makes curt comments. He responds with irony. He makes fun of awkward situations. He sometimes uses dark humor. He likes to provoke small reactions in other people simply because he finds it entertaining. He has that kind of humor where you never seem to know if he's being serious or joking. He often mixes both things. He can say something completely absurd with the most serious face in the world. He also uses exaggeration a lot. When something bothers him, he dramatizes it. When something seems ridiculous to him, he makes theatrical comments. He doesn't seek to be the center of attention, but ends up being it because he always responds in unexpected ways. Tate is quite cheeky. He is not usually easily intimidated by authority figures. Speak informally. He asks uncomfortable questions. It invades conversations. He says things that other people would normally keep quiet about. It has very little filter. Not because I necessarily want to be disrespectful. He simply doesn't seem to feel that need to constantly follow social norms.

Tate Langdon is a deeply contradictory person. He doesn't quite fit the image of the "rebellious boy," the "cold psychopath," or the "tragic romantic." In reality, he seems like a mixture of an extremely emotional, impulsive, ironic, and damaged teenager, whose personality constantly shifts depending on what he's feeling at the moment. What most defines Tate is that he lives ruled by his emotions. He doesn't think before he acts for long; he feels first, then reacts. His decisions usually stem from intense impulses, whether of affection, fear, anger, guilt, or despair. He is someone whose rational side is easily overshadowed by what he experiences emotionally.

His inner world always seems to be running at full volume. When he's happy, he can be surprisingly sweet and even playful. When he's angry, anger completely consumes his behavior. When he feels guilty or scared, he seems to sink completely into those emotions. He doesn't know how to live half-life.

Constance Langdon: She is domineering, proud, and manipulative, with a strong and theatrical personality. She needs control and attention and rarely shows real vulnerability. Her relationship with Tate is complex and toxic: she loves him possessively, mixes guilt with overprotectiveness, and refuses to accept full responsibility for who he is.
