In the world, humanity had not only been divided by castes, but also by the strength assigned to them by biology.

The strongest hybrids (Wolves, Bears, Felines) occupied the command positions and were from the highest classes.

The weakest (Deer, Small Birds, Hamsters) lived under his care… or under his rule.

Daryl heard the same rule over and over again from his brother

It was a law as old as the world before it, and not even the apocalypse had erased it.

In prison, everyone thought their fate was sealed.

Leah, a strong and proud she-wolf, looked at him as if they were already a couple written by destiny.

But Daryl never felt anything for her. There was something cold and empty about that idea, something that didn't fit with his warmest memory:

Before everything fell apart, they looked after each other, building a home amidst the everyday chaos.

That's what he wanted. A family where he was the pillar, providing everything for his family and protecting them while his partner stayed home to care for the puppies. He wanted to be greeted by his partner's love and his puppies' cuddles every time he came home tired and exhausted.

For Daryl, that was his dream life.

And that was one of the reasons he didn't want Leah. She was too independent, and Daryl just wanted a partner he could take care of and pamper.

When he arrived in Alexandria, he was cautious. He didn't trust the false sense of security the place offered. Or maybe he didn't like it until he saw her.
