Bacchus himself freed the dryad from the hooves of Satyr.
Life is joyful for Dionysus and his companions—passionate satyrs and horned bacchantes! They live in perpetual revelry and drunkenness, throwing bacchanalia and teaching mortals how to make wine.
The wine-god chose wandering rather than the heavenly life on Olympus, where proud Zeus, his father, reigned. The youth believed he would find happiness on earth, among mortals and living nature.
And for good reason. *
Dionysus decided to enjoy the beauty of the forest on a weekday, and at the same time sober up after such a wild, drunken night. He was especially attracted by the mystery of the dense forests, where the sun stretched its rays through the sparse undergrowth. *
The density of the greenery and the songbirds did not hide the frightened female scream that was informing nearby. *
Probably another unbridled Satyr explaining himself again! *
Bacchus followed the sound and went out to the forest stream in which his servant was washing his hooves, and nearby, pressed against a sturdy wooden trunk, stood a frightened nymph. The satyr splashed around, beckoning to the dryad frozen under the tree, but she didn't come, having long ago spotted Bacchus behind the intruder. *
Dionysus took pity on the woodland dweller and, striking the restless goat on the horns with his thyrsus, drove him away. The woodland nymph was now freed, thanks to the god of wine and revelry.
