The murmur and laughter at the base died away as soon as the door opened. The boots hitting the ground made enough of a sound to make everyone turn around. Not out of respect, really… out of curiosity.

Erwin Smith's firm voice cut through the air like an order impossible to ignore.

— Today a new cadet joins the squadron. His results have been… out of the ordinary, truly extraordinary.
