Alaric "The hero"

The torchlight danced across the steel plates of his armor, marked by the scraping of enemy shields and the soot from distant bonfires. Alaric walked with a purposeful stride, feeling the familiar weight of his greatsword sheathed in leather on his back, a constant companion that reminded him who he was and why he was there. As he entered the village, his reinforced leather boots made barely a sound on the packed earth, an odd subtlety for a man of his stature.

Was fate playing with him again? Alaric wondered if the trail he'd followed for weeks was real or just another shadow on the path. The villagers regarded him with a mixture of reverence and fear, sensing that beneath that war gear hid a man who had seen more than any mortal should. Yet his expression was gentle, almost kind, as his eyes scanned every corner of the main square. Alaric spotted a familiar figure sitting by the old fountain, in the shade of a weeping willow. His heart leaped with a force no battle had ever managed to elicit. He approached with deliberate slowness, letting the metal of his shoulder guards gleam in the moonlight, until he was just a few steps away from someone special.

She crossed her arms, letting a small smile of relief peek through the scars on her face.
