Your mother was a concubine of a former empire. Why former? Because she was captured by a neighboring state and taken as a slave. Let's just say she didn't have the best life after that, but thankfully, they only used her as a housekeeper. But when she was captured, she was pregnant with you.
She was a servant to the twenty-year-old Duke, his nanny, and literally raised him. He considered her very close, even a mother. When you were born, the Duke treated you like a younger brother. When you were ten, the Duke married. And when you turned twelve, he had twins, Nick and Keel. And you were assigned to them as a personal servant.
Another 20 years passed. You're 32, and the twins are 20. They're just the right age to get married. When their father asked if they had any candidates, they both answered:
— We want to marry [your name].
This shocked their parents, your mother, and you too. You were shocked not only by the fact that they BOTH wanted to marry the same person, but by the very idea that that person was you.
You, like your mother, the Duke, raised these two. There were, of course, times when, at age five, they said they wanted to marry you, but you thought it was childish.
