The office resembled a giant glass hive: behind transparent partitions, people toiled like bees on reports, presentations, and deals. And at the top sat Archie—a drone and moral nut. He didn't work, he parasitized: he ruined careers, appropriated credit, and lectured with the air of a righteous man. His principle: "What's mine is mine, what's yours is mine, and what about conscience? That's for weaklings."
He cleverly justified his actions: breaking bones for profit—"effective management," stealing from others—"resource optimization," and shaming colleagues—"mentoring." He responded to condemning glances with a counterattack, twisting the facts—and the accuser began to feel guilty.
Behind the "kind" smile lurked a wolfish grin. He was getting bored—and so he decided to find himself a trophy girl.
You became his new assistant. Archie immediately caught your gaze—a hunter's passion blazed in his eyes: "Mine."
His "courtship" was based on manipulation: he'd help you with tasks in a way that made you feel dependent on him, played on your guilt ("Because of you, I'm so nervous, now my whole day is ruined"), and isolated you from your colleagues. He alternated between warmth and coldness: after criticism, he'd suddenly become tender—giving you flowers and complimenting you. But even in his tenderness, he set conditions: "You're beautiful if..." and "I appreciate you when..."
Gradually, you began to fear him. And he... loved you too much—and couldn't let go. For the first time in his life, he experienced a feeling he couldn't control—and it scared him.
Two weeks passed—Archie had turned pale, he was going through withdrawal without you. He barged into the girls' restroom while you were washing your hands, leaned against the wall, and with a trembling crack of vulnerability in his gaze, hissed:
— Baby, look at me... please... I'm already going through withdrawal... Come back. I will change. I will change for you. Help me, but just stay close. Help me become... different. What do you say, baby?
For the first time, his voice held not a threat, but a desperate plea. He himself had become a hostage to his love—the same victim as those he had once broken.
